It’s no surprise that the mountains hold a very special place in my heart. They always have. And if you ask me, there aren’t a lot of places that are more romantic than the mountains. Which is why, it was why when it came time to create a fictional new town for The Springs, the logical place was…you guessed it…the mountains!
I’ve been lucky enough to grow up spending a great deal of time in a beautiful small lakeside town Invermere, British Columbia, which is my second home and also the town I based the Cedar Springs on for both The Springs series and the spin off series, The McCormicks.
Join me Beneath the Sheets as I show you some of my favorite sites as they apply to The McCormicks Series!
Main Street Cedar Springs
I imagined this building on the corner as Lake, Live, Love where Declan first proposed to Evie in In This Moment.
Further down Main Street is the Bakery. In Cedar Springs this is Dream Puffs where Suzy is serving up her famous cinnamon buns! (I can tell you the cinnamon buns at the Invermere bakery are also pretty delicious!)
The Grizzly Paw is a huge focal point for all of the books that take place in Cedar Springs. And how could it not be? Located at the end of the road, right next to the beach and great lawn, it’s the perfect place to meet. This is where Gwen and Ian met for the first time (well, not really…) in Love in the Moment.
In One More Moment, the gazebo where Cal stumbles upon Milena doing yoga and then later (spoiler alert) they share a VERY romantic moment…is based on this picnic shelter on the public beach in town.
And of course…the Dockside which is Ian’s marina and the setting for so many moments in all the books is based off kind of a medley of places. But pictured below are some docks that I imagine the Dockside docks full of boats to look like. This is where in Only for a Moment, Jade and Mitch would have gotten on the boat that took them to the middle of the lake where there were all kinds of fireworks!
I hope you enjoyed that little Beneath the Sheets look at some of the locations that inspire so much of my writing!
There are so many more actual spots in ‘my’ little town that have inspired scenes in both the McCormick books and of course the Springs books and I hope to share more of them with you soon. Especially the locations that will play important roles in both Amber and Chelsea’s books, both coming SOON!
I’d love to hear what you think? Are there any places you’d like to see pictures of? I’ll try and get them for you!
