Sometimes you need a little push.
It’s been a busy summer so far. My kids and I have been all over the place visiting people, having fun and trying new things. Hence my internet absence. Did you notice? No? That’s okay, it was kind of a nice break.
Anyway, one of the things I’ve been thinking about lately is how sometimes you need a little push. For my kids, that push has led to fun things this summer. Diving off the boat for the first time, trying the faster sailboat, going for a crazy tube ride, hiking a more challenging trail. They’ve even been on the other side of the push. Encouraging a friend to try the highest water slide, to jump of the boat in the middle of the lake, try the high diving board or even go for a wild tube ride.
Sure, these things seem minor and inconsequential. And really, for kids, getting that push to try something new almost always involves something fun. But for adults, it’s often not all that different either.
Over the years I’ve had friends who’ve given me the nudge I need to try fun things too. Things like signing up for athletic events I would never have considered, get on the crazy roller coaster, or take a major trip overseas. Worthwhile? Almost always. Fun? For sure.
But all fun aside, sometimes you need a push to do something more serious. To make a change in your life that terrifies you because it’s so far out of your comfort zone. And this is where having a really good friend, one who’s willing to push you when you need it, is worth their weight in gold.
Have you ever been standing on the precipice of a major decision and you know what you ‘should’ do but you can’t quite take the leap and do it? Maybe it’s the ‘hardest’ choice, the one that doesn’t come naturally, the one that scares you. Whatever it is that’s holding you back, that’s when you need that good friend who will give you the nudge that you need. To push you over the edge into the decision that you may not have made otherwise (or maybe would have taken you a lot longer to make).
I have friends that push me to do better, to try new things, to go further than I ever would on my own. (I ‘may’ have a new goal because of such a push…more about that later, when I’m ready). And of course I am that friend for other people. Sure, you can do it on your own. But sometimes…you need a little push.
Do you have a friend who pushes you? What have you done because of a PUSH?
P.S. I know I’ve been totally absent from the online world lately. BUT I have some really exciting announcements coming up, and some very cool things that I can’t wait to share, so stay tuned!
